Supply Chain

Meesho was experiencing huge financial losses

due to fraudulent return claims, where sellers

received incorrect products instead of what they

had shipped. This lack of visibility into where

the discrepancy happened meant that Meesho had

to bear unnecessary costs. I led the end-to-end

product design for a QR-based tamper-proof tracking

system to eliminate these issues and bring

complete accountability across the logistics chain.

Problem

Meesho was facing huge financial losses due to fraudulent return claims, where sellers received incorrect products instead of what they shipped. The lack of visibility made it impossible to track where the fraud occurred, forcing Meesho to bear unnecessary costs.

❌ No Traceability

Meesho had no way to track where the mismatch occurred in the return process.

Fraudulent or incorrect returns resulted in significant financial losses.

Sellers lost trust in the return system.

⚠️ High Cost of Wrongful Claims

Since logistics had no scanning system, claims were always settled in favor of the sellers, costing Meesho heavily.

Need for visibility at every step to pinpoint the exact place of the fraud.

📉 Operational Inefficiencies

Manual tracking was impossible due to the high volume of orders.

Logistics teams needed a seamless, low-friction scanning solution.

Why Barcoded Packets?

Increase in Delivery Delays

Fleet owner experienced a significant increase in delivery delays, resulting in dissatisfied customers and lost business opportunities.

Security Concerns

Instances of unauthorized vehicle use and theft posed a serious security threat to fleet operations. Without a reliable tracking system in place, owners unable to prevent unauthorised access to our vehicles or recover stolen assets promptly.

Inefficient Resource Utilization

Fleet's resources were underutilised due to poor route planning, idle time. Without visibility into vehicle utilisation metrics and driver performance, owners were unable to optimise resources.

Lack of Data Insights

Lack of access to actionable data insights blocked owner's ability to make informed decisions regarding fleet management, route optimisation, and performance improvement initiatives.

The Problem

LocoNav

They provide basic functionalities like live tracking and geofencing. UX is not focused around the non tech savvy truck owners.

Wheelseye

Their tracking solution is most commonly used due to cheaper pricing but UX is not consistent and in some screens it has cognitive overload.

My Role and Process

Before diving into the design process, extensive user research was conducted to understand the needs, pain points, and preferences of truck and fleet owners in India.

Insights from user research

  • Realtime Visibility is Crucial

  • Security and Theft Prevention

  • Ease of Use and Accessibility

  • Scalability and Flexibility

Data

Rajesh Kumar

Fleet Owner

Age: 39

Usage

Rajesh owns a fleet of 10 trucks used for transporting goods across different states in India. He requires a tracking application that offers real-time location tracking, speed monitoring, and notifications for unauthorized use.

Pain points

Difficulty in monitoring vehicle activities, lack of timely alerts for speeding or unauthorised deviations, limited visibility into fleet performance.

Priya Singh

Logistics Manager

Age: 35

Usage

Priya works for a logistics company managing a fleet of 50 trucks for transporting goods to various destinations. She needs a tracking application that provides detailed analytics, customisable alerts, and geofencing capabilities.

Pain points

Inefficient route planning, lack of real-time visibility into vehicle locations, delays in addressing maintenance issues or driver performance.

Issues In The Current Version

I diverged on designs and tried different approaches validated them with the users to achieve the perfect end result.

Heuristic Evaluation

Truck List

  • High visibility filters to quickly select trucks based on status.

  • Truck card with all the relevant details.

  • Clear visual hierarchy of information making it easier for users to consume the details.

  • Visual indicators to differentiate critical statuses.

Map View

  • Multiple trucks can be viewed on map using clustering.

  • Truck icons are color coded based on their status.

Detailed View

  • Summary of trip reduces anxiety amongst truck owner by providing tracking details.

  • Timeline view to give visibility of all the stops and states during the trip.

  • Speed indicator for truck owners to encourage their drivers to follow speed limits.
